More than 75% of you dance class is not going to make it as professional dancer, and there are a couple of reasons for that. Don't worry sometimes is not because you are in a bad school or your teacher is not qualified. Even though, sometimes this is the case so pay attention ( later on we will do a post to help you find out if you are being well trained or if your school or your teacher is not giving you the best education you can have) most of the cases are something else and here it goes some of the reasons:
Besides all the basics such as being unprepared, suffering a serious injury at the wrong moment in life and not having enough motivation or mental health to continue, there is a lot more to the process of becoming a professional ballet dancer that are not that well known. Not having that knowlege in some cases cost the dream of a dancer.
The first problem we encounter is the lack of knowlege, which means that dancers after graduating don't know what to do, where to audition, what companies would suit his/her body type and dance style. So just before graduating every dancer who aims a professional carrer should consult a coach/ mentor that would help them find the best opportunities for them, besides, will help them understand what are the next steps and what should they be doing.
Secondly this industry is full of rejection and after one or two no's, young dancers grow frustraded and disillusioned so they tend to give and my tip here for those who are in this dark place is to remmember that in this carrer it is mostly not only about talent but also about perseverence .
Now a days is easy to get distracted specially with all those beautiful young dancers on social media which results in drawing focus away from the daily rigors and restorative downtime that dance requires. Comparing yourself with all those amazing dancers on instagram will only make you feel less of yourself. That is not worthy !! As I said before each one of us have something special and there is a company out there that is looking for exactly what we have.
So do't worry too much enjoy the process and the result will come
